Aris Limassol announces the appointment of Vitalijs Astafjevs, member of Aliaksei Shpileuski coaching staff, as Head of Elite Development in Aris academy system.
The Latvian coach will conduct the training and oversee development of the elite group of talented players of the academies on a daily basis and will be the academy's liaison with the senior squad, keeping Aliaksei Shpileuski in the loop about the development of future Aris stars.
Vitalijs Astafjevs has had a distinguished career as a football player. Apart from being a key player of long-time Latvian champions Skonto FC, he also played for FK Austria Wien, Bristol Rovers FC, FC Admira Wacker Mödling and FC Rubin Kazan. On international level, Astafjevs wrote the history books with the Latvian national team as he was capped in 167 games for his country, setting a European record at the time as the most capped player.
Before joining Aris, Vitalijs worked as a coach for Skonto, Latvian national team, FK Jelgava and Pafos FC.
