Violence has no place in sports

The Aris Limassol family expresses its profound outrage and condemnation over the shocking incident that occurred today, involving the brutal assault by a parent of a player from the opposing team on Aris K12 coach Tornike Aphtsiauri, during a match of the grassroots championship. The incident resulted in the coach being transferred to hospital for medical treatment.

Aris Limassol wishes to send a clear and unequivocal message that violence, in any form, will not be tolerated. We are therefore compelled to take all necessary actions to ensure that football remains a sport founded on fair play and respect, and that violence has no place within it.

Therefore, we inform that we will proceed with filing a complaint against the suspect with the police and will pursue all legal actions required to ensure exemplary punishment.

At the same time, we call upon the Cyprus Football Association to address this incident within the scope of its responsibilities and to take all necessary measures to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future—safeguarding the physical integrity of professionals in the sport and preserving children’s pure love for the game.
