ARIS FC has hosted a press conference on Monday, February the 28th to present the new coach Aleksey Shpileuski to the media. You can find a summary of his statements below.
Good players
I am very satisfied with everything I’ve heard from the people of the club. It’s kind of sad for the previous coach, I have been in his place in the past myself. He did a great job promoting the team and getting them where they are today. I had my first training today and the first impression of the quality and the vibes of the players was very good.I have presented my ideas to them. We have time to implement our ideas and in the 10 games left we’ll try for the best.
Realistic target of getting to Europe
We’ll work to go to Europe. There are other clubs ahead of us like Apollon, APOEL and others. We have to give self-confidence back to the players. Progressing to Europe is a realistic target. I cannot promise anything though, but we will work for it.
I like attacking football
It is true we lack in scoring but this is something I will try to change. Scoring is not up to one person, it’s something that everybody must be involved in. I like attacking football, but the most important thing I want to implement in the team is the winning mentality.
I always want to win
Whether I am playing against my father or my best friend, I always want to win.
I worked with older players in the past
It’s not the first time for me. I worked with older players than me in previous clubs. Players who had games in the biggest competitions under their belt and we got along fine. There has to be respect both ways. Players are not dumb, they can understand when a coach can help them to develop and grow.
Priority changes
Priority for me is to change the mental situation. Players should start believing again that they can win, and in the tactical part to bring the lines closer and get the team higher on the pitch.
Level of Cypriot football
The intensity in the Cypriot league is not the highest, but the technical level is quite good. It’s an interesting championship, I have a lot of respect for Cyprus football.
